This building is a research centre for research into HIV and TB

Multiple sites around the building:

  • Groups of large disks around the curved front wall along a 20m stretch, themed on traditional Zulu healing plants.

  • Load undulating mural 25m x 2m on curved interior wall representing traditional Zulu healing plants.

  • 11m x 2m strip on the side of the front tower images of cells and viruses

  • Entire wall of 6 storey staircase representing the DNA strip

  • 30 square metre Floor insert at entrance reception representing eastern Healing Mandalas.

  • 150 square metre mural on front face of parking garage representing cells and viruses.

Project managed by Jane du Rand

Concept design: Jane du Rand, and design development working with a group of 20 Zulu youth living with HIV.

Manufacture of panels by team of 20 youth living with HIV, led by Jane du Rand 

Installation by employees of Jane du Rand’s Durban workshop, project managed by Jane du Rand.
